Prof. Plamen Stoyanov Bozhinov, MD, PhD, DSc was born in 1970 in Sofia in a family of doctors. He graduated from the German language school Exarch Joseph I in Lovech in 1989 and medicine at the Medical University - Pleven in 1995. He is a full-time doctoral student at the First Neurological Clinic in the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery, Medical University - Pleven (1997 - 2000) and specialist in Neurology since 2002. Specializes in Clinical Neurology, Neurophysiology and Epileptology with Prof. D. Chavdarov and Assoc. Prof. A. Alexiev at the Medical University - Sofia (1997 - 1998); Prof. Z. Zahariev at the Medical University - Plovdiv (1998); Prof. R. Guerini in Florence (Italy) (1999-2000); Prof. P. Calvach in Chest and Prague (Czech Republic) - 2001; Prof. S. Noachtar and Prof. H. Luders at LMU Munich (Germany) - 2001, 2003 and 2005. He is a Fellow of the European Federation of Neurological Societies (2002) in Medical Universiry of Luebeck, Germany under the supervision of Prof. D. Kömpf, Prof. A. Moser, Prof. V. Heide and Prof. R. Ferleger.

Physician at EEG Laboratory (2000 - 2004), Assistant in Neurology (2004 - 2005) and Chief Assistant (2005 - 2011) at the First Neurological Clinic, University Hospital "Dr. G. Stranski" - Pleven. He received his doctorate degree in neuroscience in 2002 and his doctorate in medical science in 2015.

Associated Professor at the Neurological Clinic of the University Hospital "Dr. G. Stranski" and the Medical University - Pleven 2011 - 2013.

Associated Professor (2011), Professor (2018) and Head of the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery, Medical University - Pleven 2014 - 2020.

He is the author and co-author of eight scientific monographs and has over 100 scientific publications. His scientific interests are in the field of clinical neurology, neurophysiology, epileptology, otoneurology, transcranial magnetic stimulation and direct current CNS stimulation.

He has been working as a researcher and principal investigator since 1998 in international clinical trials for the treatment of epilepsy, epileptic status, narcolepsy, pain, headache, multiple sclerosis, dementias, Parkinson's disease and more.

He is a member of the Union of Scientists in Bulgaria, the Bulgarian Society of Neurology, the Association for Clinical Electromyography and Evoked Potentials. Vice-president of the Bulgarian Epilepsy Society (ILAE Bulgarian Branch of the International League against Epilepsy) since 2010. He is a member of the board of editors of JBCR magazine of MU - Pleven.

Since 2020 he is the Head of the Neurology Department at the University Hospital "Heart and Brain" Pleven.
